People were out at Big Spring Park Saturday for a St. Jude fundraiser to fight childhood cancer
Ending childhood cancer is top of mind for St. Jude Children's Hospital. That's why Â鶹´«Ã½ leaders of the organization held their third annual walk/run fundraiser at Big Spring Park Saturday.
Talia Jarvis is one of many child cancer patients who raised money and walked for a cure alongside friends and family.
The 10-year-old is battling It's not easy to beat, but Jarvis is fighting strong.
"I have friends and family to support me, and I know they are praying for me all the time," Jarvis said. "St. Jude is doing the best they can do to make me well and get back with my family more."
To Anna Hess, each child cancer patient's battle is personal. Doctors diagnosed her son Anderson with a brain tumor three years ago. He's now made a full recovery, but Hess knows that wouldn't have been possible without St. Jude Children's Hospital.
"Anything we can do to bring awareness and to give back," Hess said. "St. Jude patients and their families, they never receive a bill for treatment, housing, travel, or food."
Her son Anderson received that care. So,Ìýnow it's Hess's mission to raise money for other child cancer patients in Â鶹´«Ã½. She organized the third annual St. Jude Walk/Run fundraiser.
She says folks raised more than $200,000 for kids like her son and Jarvis.
"I'm just glad that I get to be here for this special day," Jarvis said. "Thank you."
