The officers involved in Steve Perkins' death are set to learn their fate this week.
Mayor Bowling tells WAAY 31 the determination hearings for the officers involved remain tentatively scheduled for the week of Dec. 4.Ìý
"The city recently sent out hearing notices for the determination hearings for the officers involved and we are in process of getting these hearings scheduled," Bowling said.
Decatur Police Chief Todd Pinion gave Bowling theÌýfindings from his internal investigation nearly two weeks ago.Ìý
Pinion says he believes policies were violated the night of the Sep. 29 shooting.
There are so many opinions regarding what Bowling should do about the officers' employment.Ìý
Community members and the Perkins family say they want those officers fired and prosecuted for the part they played in Perkins' death.Ìý
But there are some who show their support for the officers, including Decatur Councilman Hunter Pepper.Ìý
Pepper believes none of the officers involved should be terminated.
Bowling says, per Alabama law, if any officer is disciplined this week, the decision can be appealed.
Former Decatur Police Chief Nate Allen says Bowling does not have to release the findings by any specific timeline.
The results of these hearings can be withheld by the city for however long they see fit.
Bowling says the city plans to make the findings of these hearings public, but he has not confirmed when that will be.
There is a Decatur City Council meeting scheduled for Monday at 6 p.m.
