All four Decatur Police officers disciplined for their roles in the fatal shooting of Steve Perkins have appealed their punishments.
On Dec. 7, Decatur Mayor Tab Bowling announced he fired three officers and suspended another for policy violations connected to Perkins’ death.
Perkins, a Decatur man, was killed in his front yard during an officer-involved shooting early Sept. 29 during an attempted vehicle repossession. (Read more here)
City Attorney Herman Marks told WAAY those names will be released once the personnel board overseeing the appeals process gets underway. He said that could take a week.
That board is made up entirely of citizens.
“But it takes a while to get the notices prepared, and set the hearings, but once that’s done they’ll put out the notices with the dates of the hearings and all that, with names and all that. But it’s really their process now,†Marks said.
While the city has not identified the officers, a federal lawsuit filed against the city by the Perkins family names them as Bailey Marquette, Christopher Mukadam, Vance Summers and Joey Williams.
