The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency had identified the man killed Sunday in an officer-involved shooting with the Muscle Shoals Police Department.

ALEA says the incident occurred about 5 p.m. when officers responded to the 300 block of Tuxedo Avenue West in Muscle Shoals.

Once on scene, officers encountered an individual with a knife. ALEA now says that was Ronald Parrish, 68, of Muscle Shoals.

After repeated verbal commands to drop the knife, they say Parrish lunged toward the officers with the knife causing police to engage and shoot the suspect.

Parrish was transported to Helen Keller Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. An autopsy will be performed by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.

ALEA will turn the results of its investigation over to the Colbert County District Attorney’s Office.
