The City of Athens announced on Sunday that some roads have been closed due to storm damage following severe weather that moved through the area late Saturday night.

City officials say Pryor Street around Veterans Museum, The Square, and Pecan Park parking lot will remain closed to the public until further notice.

Athens Police and Athens Utilities asks that people stay away from the area while crews work to repair and replace utility poles and power lines. They say it's not safe for the public to walk around the area during this time.

City officials say damage was reported at the Veterans Museum located on Pryor Street and that the new park has taken damage as well. According to City of Athens officials, the building the museum's mural was on is gone.
