Police say one juvenile is in custody and another dead following a shooting at a Florence apartment complex on Wednesday.
The shooting happened on the 1300 block of Hermitage Drive at the Southern Oaks Apartments.
Police say when they got to the scene they found a deceased juvenile in the parking lot. Investigators say that while at the scene, an individual involved in the incident came up to detectives with the Florence Police Department. Investigators say they then learned the deceased juvenile and another juvenile had planned to rob the other party involved in the incident.
Florence Police say detectives executed search warrants in Franklin and Colbert counties with the help of Florence/Lauderdale SWAT Team early Thursday morning.
Around 3 a.m., police arrested and charged a juvenile with felony murder and robbery in connection with the incident.
According to Colbert County Schools Superintendent Nathan Fuller, the juvenile that was killed in the shooting was an 8th grade student at Colbert Heights High School. School officials identified him as Ryland Calvert in a statement released on . The school system says it will have counselors and support services available for those in need when school resumes.
Police say the juvenile arrested in the case will be tried as an adult and is being held on a $100,000 bond.
