Death investigation underway after Limestone Correctional Facility inmate found unresponsive in cell

The Alabama Department of Corrections Law Enforcement Services Division is investigating an inmate death.

According to ADOC, inmate Steven Wayne Benton, 62, was discovered unresponsive in his cell at Limestone Correctional Facility Sunday.

ADOC says life-saving measures were administered, and he was transported to the health care unit where life-saving efforts continued.

Medical staff was unable to resuscitate him, and he was pronounced dead by the attending physician.

Benton was serving a life sentence for manslaughter out of Autauga County.
