Officials with Decatur Morgan Hospital announced the upcoming installation of a Safe Haven Baby Box.
The hospital says the box will provide a secure and anonymous option for mothers in crisis who are unable to care for their newborns. Officials say the resource is a live-saving one that will ensure every baby receives immediate medical attention.
The boxes that are installed on exterior walls of fire stations and hospitals are equipped with safety features and are climate-controlled with an exterior door that locks automatically. Medical personnel immediately get alerted about an infant that's been placed in the box. Â
“Providing a Safe Haven Baby Box at Decatur Morgan Hospital is a critical step in ensuring that parents in crisis have a secure and anonymous option,†said Kelli Powers, President of Decatur Morgan Hospital. “We are honored to be able to offer this resource, reinforcing our commitment to the well-being of our community.â€
Decatur Morgan Hospital will host an installation and blessing of the baby box at 1:30 p.m. on Monday at the Emergency Department.
