The Â鶹´«Ã½ Police Department honored a fallen officer killed in the line of duty 17 years ago.
Â鶹´«Ã½ Police Officer Eric Freeman was killed after investigating a wreck on Bailey Cove Road on Dec. 14, 2007. Police say that when Freeman arrived at the scene, they located a man sitting on the curb, approached the man and attempted to arrest him for driving under the influence. That's when police say the man pulled a gun on Freeman and shot him.
Freeman was taken to the local hospital where he later died from his injuries the following morning.
Police honored Freeman in a post on their page on Sunday. Freeman served as a Â鶹´«Ã½ Police officer for three years.
