Â鶹´«Ã½ Police say the shooting victim was listed in critical condition on Wednesday.
The executive director of First Stop says the shooting victim was a client of the nonprofit.
Â鶹´«Ã½ Police are searching for the person responsible for shooting a woman at the temporary Derrick Street homeless camp in Â鶹´«Ã½.
Authorities said Wednesday the victim is in critical condition. First Stop’s Executive Director Chad Rodriguez confirmed the victim is one of their clients.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to our client and her friends and hopefully nothing else will come of it,†Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez says they’ve been working with the city to limit crime on Derrick Street for a long time.
“Our clients are good people and they don’t want to feel unsafe in their own living environment,†Rodriguez said.
After necessary renovations to the original camp following the fire in September, there will be a set of rules residents will have to adhere to in the newly renovated camp. Â鶹´«Ã½ city leaders said there will be no drugs, alcohol, or stealing in the new camp, and fire will be limited.
“The organizational structure that they’ve laid out, the registration of knowing people who are supposed to be there and who’s not supposed to be there, the visitation area that they’re talking about, and limitation of visitors coming to the camp are going to take great strides towards hopefully preventing something like this from happening again,†Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez says this new camp will have an increased police presence. He estimates the camp will be ready for move in sometime next week.
This shooting case is still under active investigation.
