A Florence man accused of beating another man back in February is now charged with murder.

Florence police say the victim, 59-year-old Donald Edwin Hale, succumbed to his injuries on Monday.

About 8 p.m. on Feb. 3, officers responded to a report of a man who had been severely beaten and left in the roadway at the intersection of West Mobile and North Locust streets.

Following further investigation, 47-year-old Fredrick Maurice Ingram was identified as a suspect. Ingram was apprehended and initially charged with attempted murder on Feb. 11, but his charge was upgraded to murder on Tuesday as a result of Hale's death.

Ingram was already in custody at the Lauderdale County Detention Center and is currently being held without bond.
