Two Â鶹´«Ã½ parents are urging authorities to act after they say they caught a man spying on their daughters through a motel room window.
Jenna Farrar and Jerry Leverette say the incident happened early Monday morning at the Southern Inn and Suites off University Drive. Camera recordings show the man stood outside the window of their room for nearly two hours, watching their daughters through the blinds.
"One of the girls had seen it popping up and come and woke her up around 5 a.m., saying, 'Momma, there's somebody outside,'" Leverette said.
The movement notification came from a security camera in the window. When the couple reviewed the footage, they said they were horrified by what they saw.
"Come to find out, we had a guy that had been peeking in our window from about 3 a.m. till she woke up, watching our daughters, six and nine-years-old, and was, you know, gratifying himself," Leverette said.
Farrar said that when she stepped outside to investigate, another man pointed in the direction in which the suspect had run. But, she said, that didn't stop the man from returning shortly after.
"I was trying to look at the phone and wake him up, and I looked out the window, and even though [he] knew that I had just come outside, he was already looking in the window again," Farrar said. "And when we made eye contact, that's when he ran off."
The couple said that after they posted about the incident on Facebook, a family member of the man who was allegedly involved reached out to confirm his identity. However, the Â鶹´«Ã½ Police Department has not released the man's name, citing that there is no active warrant for his arrest. The lack of a warrant is also what Leverette claimed kept police from arresting the man later Monday afternoon when he tracked him down and called the police.
Leverette said the experience has left him shaken.
"The whole situation, there was an anger or a rage that came up inside of me that I've never felt before," he said.
Farrar told WAAY 31 the earliest they can sign the warrant is Friday, and they will be there first thing so the arrest can happen as soon as possible. Â鶹´«Ã½ Police confirmed that the case is an active investigation for aggravated criminal surveillance, a Class C felony in Alabama.
