Judge drops capital murder charges against Florence man accused in double homicide

WAAY 31 is working to get answers.

This after a Colbert County judge dropped a capital murder charge against Shaun Ryan.

Shaun Michael Ryan

Just Friday, the court granted a motion to suppress statements Ryan made to law enforcement.

Ryan’s lawyers argued police did not give him his proper Miranda warnings and his lawyer wasn't present when he made his statements.

Because of that, Colbert County Judge Mitchell D. Hays granted the motion on Aug. 9 that dropped the case.

Ryan was charged with killing 23-year-old Kayla Glover and 25-year-old Gary Baskins on Jan. 24, 2015. Glover was pregnant at the time.

WAAY 31 reached out to the DA’s office for more information about this case. We also wanted to know why the case was dropped. So far, no one has called us back.

A second man, Travis Fallows, was indicted in this case as well.

In October 2021, Ryan pleaded guilty to a drug trafficking charge and is currently serving a life sentence.
