Man charged with murder of Austin Peay football player killed in I-65 wreck

John McAdams is charged with the murder of William Hardrick.

A man faces murder charges following the death of an Austin Peay football player that was killed in a wreck on I-65 in Limestone County Tuesday evening.

According to Limestone County Coroner Mike West, the wreck happened about 6:40 p.m. on I-65 near Piney Chapel Road. West says William D. Hardrick, 22, of Birmingham was killed after the vehicle he was in left the roadway and crashed through a fence before coming to a stop on Piney Chapel Road. 

Hardrick played football for Austin Peay State University in Tennessee after playing for Mississippi State and Miami (Ohio).

According to court documents, John Walter McAdams was arrested and charged with murder in connection with the wreck. McAdams also faces charges of driving under the influence along with two felony counts of leaving the scene of an accident with injury.

McAdams is currently being held in the Limestone County Jail without bond.
