Hundreds of Morgan County employees could get a big bonus to close out the year.

The Morgan County Commission talked about including a $1,000 bonus for part-time and full-time workers in next year's budget.

It would also include a 2 percent cost of living increase. The cost-of-living adjustments, one-time payments and salary increases would cost the county about a little more than $2 million if approved.

"This will be another boost to the pay scale to help retain our employees, let them know we appreciate them because we say all the time our employees are our biggest asset," Ray Long said. "You take away good employees and you really don't, you just can't operate."

The Morgan County Commission plans to vote on the budget in the beginning of September. Fiscal year 2025 starts Oct. 1.
