A former Lauderdale County deputy, John Randall McCrary, will be honored by having his name placed on the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C.

McCrary's name will be added during this year's National Police Week, which begins May 11.

The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office says McCrary, who passed away on Feb. 28, 2024, has officially been recognized as a line-of-duty-death due to complications from gunshot wounds he received while serving commitment papers on Feb. 3, 2016.

McCrary was employed as a Lauderdale County deputy at the time of the shooting.

He later worked for the Rogersville Police Department and was employed there at the time of his death.

The John Randall McCrary Fallen Officer Memorial Fund has been created to help cover the expenses the family will incur during their trip to D.C. The sheriff's office says donations may be made at any Bank Independent location.
