New Market resident calls out Madison County Animal Control for neglect, change expected soon

A New Market woman is frustrated with the Madison County Animal Control. She claims they lack care for abused animals and have neglected issues in her area despite reporting the offenses. We are learning things may be on the verge of changing now.

Melissa Jones said New Market is no stranger to stray and neglected dogs. The most recent dog, she said, has caught a lot of attention on social media due to its overgrown and matted look. She said the dog makes her and others in the community worried.

“Some of these animals will die. You know, their last memories will be on a chain or being abused. You know, being severely matted and just never knowing what it feels like to be in a loving home,†said Jones.

WAAY 31 took those concerns of hers to the Madison County Animal Control Center, and they told us they never ignore a situation and work hard to make sure every animal is well taken care of. In fact, Brad Stewart, the director, said they are working closely with the dog owner to make sure that is not the case.

Madison County Animal Control said they have known about the matted dog since Sept. 27. They caught the dog, returned it to the owner, and the dog got out again.

Thanks to Madison County Animal Control and a community member Wednesday, the dog will be given a haircut and a new pin, so that going forward he won't be able to get out.
