North Alabama Impact: DOGE job cuts affecting more federal agencies

WAAY 31’s monitoring the latest federal agency layoffs. 

Hundreds of surfaced explaining the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration recently suffered staff cuts.

This comes as the Trump administration's newly created Department of Government Efficiency, also known as DOGE, continues making cuts to the federal workforce.

says their communications services was removed entirely due to a reduction in staff. 

WAAY 31 contacted several local weather services and was referred to their corporate media contact when asking about the layoffs.

The National Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Service’s public affairs office issued the following statement: 

“Per long-standing practice, we are not discussing internal personnel and management matters. NOAA remains dedicated to its mission, providing timely information, research, and resources that serve the American public and ensure our nation’s environmental and economic resilience. We continue to provide weather information, forecasts and warnings pursuant to our public safety mission. Thanks for your understanding.â€

WAAY 31 did reach out to Gov. Kay Ivey for a comment. We’re waiting to hear back.
