Person in black caught on security video removing memorial

Memorial removed overnight Sunday

One person dressed all in black removed the Steve Perkins memorial from in front of Decatur City Hall early Sunday morning.

The unauthorized activity was captured on security camera video at City Hall about 12:40 Sunday morning.

Decatur police are working to identify the person. Police say the removal was not authorized by anyone at the Police Department or the Mayor's Office.

Perkins was shot and killed Sep. 29 by Decatur Police outside his home.

The Mayor found the officers violated department policy and moved to fire three officers and suspend a fourth. All the officers are appealing the city's discipline.

ALEA is investigating the shooting and use of deadly force.
