Some North Alabama schools alter schedules due to Thursday's severe weather threat

THURSDAY IS A 31 ALERT DAY

Thursday is a 31 Alert Day ahead of the remnants of Hurricane Francine. This will bring the risk of some severe weather across the area. The greatest threats are 30-45mph winds, 2-3" of rain, and a low end tornado risk.

With this in mind, some North Alabama school systems are adjusting their schedules on Thursday.

We'll keep this list updated as we learn more.

  • Colbert County Schools will dismiss at 12:30 p.m. After-school activities and games are cancelled.
  • Decatur City Schools will have no after-school activities.
  • DeKalb County Schools will dismiss at 2 p.m. 
  • Fort Payne City Schools will dismiss at 2 p.m.
  • Franklin County Schools will have no after-school activities.
  • Âé¶¹´«Ã½ City Schools will have no after-school activities.
  • Jackson County Schools will dismiss at noon.
  • Lauderdale County Schools will dismiss at noon. There will be no extracurricular activities.
  • Limestone County Schools will end all after-school activities at 5 p.m.
  • Lincoln County Schools will have no after-school activities.
  • Madison City Schools: James Clemens High School has cancelled the Homecoming Parade scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
  • Northeast Alabama Community College is closing at 3 p.m.
  • Northwest Shoals Community College is closing at 4 p.m.
  • Russellville City Schools will have no after-school or extracurricular activities.
  • Scottsboro City Schools: Elementary schools will dismiss at 11:15 a.m.; Secondary schools will dismiss at noon.
  • Sheffield City Schools: All extracurricular and after-school activities are cancelled after 4 p.m.
  • Tuscumbia City Schools will have no after-school activities.
