The clock is ticking for Alabamians to get their STAR ID.

Alabamians have until May 7 to get a STAR ID.

The clock is ticking for Alabamians to get a STAR ID. As we near the May 7 deadline, the lines to secure them are becoming longer and longer.

“This is a promotion we’ve been talking about for a long time, the STAR ID, and it seems like everybody’s waiting till the last minute, they’re panicking,” said Alabama State Trooper Brandon Bailey with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

The ALEA Drivers License location in 鶹ý off Governors West NW had a lengthy line Monday morning. 鶹ý resident Taylor Cox told WAAY 31 she waited nearly four hours to get her STAR ID.

“I thought it would maybe be like 30 minutes, not two hours just to wait for a ticket to wait again,” Cox said. “It’s 30 plus people inside with tickets still waiting, and it’s a whole line of people waiting just to get a ticket to wait some more so yeah this is insane.”

Bailey says you can still get a STAR ID after the deadline, but if you’re going anywhere that requires the updated ID, you'll have to use a passport or another acceptable form of identification. He says you need to bring three things with you to get your STAR ID: your birth certificate, a form of identification that identifies your social security number, and two other forms of identification.

“To keep the time following regularly so you don’t have any delays, we will encourage you to bring the required documents to your appointment. A lot of people are waiting and then when they get there they realize that, 'Hey, I don’t have all of my required documents,'” Bailey said.
