The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is urging residents to participate in "Wear Your Life Jacket to Work Day" on Friday.

This initiative is part of a national safety awareness campaign to promote the importance of wearing life jackets. According to U.S. Coast Guard statistics, drowning accounted for three out of every four recreational boating fatalities in 2023, with approximately 87 percent of those victims not wearing life jackets.

ALEA's Marine Patrol Division is joining forces with boating professionals and outdoor enthusiasts to showcase the comfort and versatility of life jackets by wearing them to work. Participants are encouraged to take photos of themselves in their life jackets at work and share them on social media using the hashtag #wearyourlifejacketatworkday. They can also tag the Safe Boating Campaign (@boatingcampaign) or send their photos to the NSBC directly.

The event is organized by the National Safe Boating Council (NSBC) ahead of National Safe Boating Week, which runs from May 17-23.
