HUNTSVILLE – The Class 5A girls’ semifinal battle between two defending state champions proved to be just that – a classic battle Wednesday morning at John Hunt Park as the 2025 AHSAA State Soccer Championships got underway.

Westminster Christian (17-3-1) edged Springville (17-3-4) 1-0 in a match that was scoreless through 40 minutes of regulation play and 10 more minutes through two overtime period. The teams then moved to shots from the mark with five players on each side taking shots from the penalty mark. They tied 3-3 in the first series.

However, in the second series of shots on the mark, both teams missed on their first tries, Westminster’s keeper came up with a save on Springville’s second try and the Wildcats’ Annie Collier then settled the marathon with a kick on goal for the win.
