Supporters of Steve Perkins are hosting multiple events to celebrate his life in January.
In September, Decatur’s Steve Perkins was killed in an officer-involved shooting. His death has sparked outrage within the Decatur community and beyond.Â

According to Morgan County NAACP President Rodney Gordon, several events are being hosted in Steve Perkins' honor for what would have been his 40th birthday.

On Jan. 4, there will be a balloon release and parade from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The location for this event is 2nd/Grant Street SE in Decatur.
On Jan. 5, there will be an Austin versus Decatur basketball game at Decatur High School.
Perkins’ daughter, Jada, will be playing, and attendees are encouraged to wear #IAMSTEVEPERKINS gear.
This event is from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
On Jan. 6, there will be a free panel discussion from noon to 3:30 p.m.
The event will be at the Princess Theatre in Decatur.
Additionally, there are tickets being sold to an exclusive event taking place on Jan. 6. at 6 p.m.
