During a work session on Monday, a Decatur city councilman claimed an administrative officer with the Decatur Police Department called another police department and posed as a Decatur City human resource employee in order to get information on newly hired Police Chief Torry Mack.
According to Councilman Billy Jackson, the administrative officer contacted the Fultondale Police Department where Mack previously worked as captain. Jackson claims the officer told Fultondale Police Chief Marcel Walker that the officer was an employee with the City of Decatur's Human Resource Department as part of the hiring team for a new police chief and asked to know the "good and bad" about Mack.
Jackson says he called the city's human resource department and confirmed that employees with the department had already spoken with Walker the day before and that no one within human resources had called the Fultondale Police Department on the day when the administrative officer allegedly made the call.
During the work session, Jackson says he spoke with the city's human resource department to demand something be done and was told a conversation would be had with Interim Police Chief Nadis Carlisle and that the incident would be recorded on the officer's personnel file as a "teachable moment."Â
Jackson instead called the incident an "egregious act" during the work session and says the actions were not a "teachable moment" but a "fireable moment."
