Juvenile in custody after threat made to a Sheffield City School

Sheffield Police say a juvenile is in custody after a threat was made to a Sheffield City School.

Sheffield Police say school officials were contacted about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday about a social media post insinuating possible threats to a Sheffield City School.

Police say they were immediately given information about a possible suspect and began working on the location of the juvenile who made the post. According to Sheffield Police, because the suspect was not initially located at the residence they'd been given, the department decided to have a large police presence at the school in question.

Investigators were able to locate the suspect Thursday morning and took the juvenile into custody without incident. The juvenile was taken to a juvenile detention center and now faces charges related to the incident.

Sheffield Police say the juvenile doesn't have any connection to Sheffield City Schools or Florence City Schools.

"We take these threats serious and will follow through with the fullest extent of the law possible," said Sheffield Police Chief Chris Tate. "The Sheffield Police Department would like to thank the Sheffield City School System, Sheffield Investigators, and Sheffield Patrol for swiftly taking action to get the situation under control."
