UPDATE: Governors Drive reopens after day-long closure due to downed power lines in Âé¶¹´«Ã½

UPDATE: At 7 p.m. Monday the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Police Department reported Governors Drive is now open as normal.

From earlier:

A large portion of Governors Drive is temporarily closed Monday after power lines fell into the roadway.

Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Police officers responded to the downed communication lines across Governors Drive just before 2 a.m. Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Utilities has been notified and is actively working to resolve the issue.

Due to the location of the damage, the utility company estimates the road closure will remain in place for at least 8 hours. 

If you need to travel along Governors Drive, please plan alternate routes and travel with caution.

DETOUR INFORMATION:

  • If you are traveling east on Governors Drive, traffic is being re-routed at California Street.
    • If you travel east past California Street, you will be re-routed at Monte Sano Boulevard.
  • If you are traveling west on Governors Drive, you will be re-routed at Old Big Cove Road or stopped and told to turn around when you get closer to the lines.

ALTERNATE ROUTES:

  • If you need to get to the Hampton Cove area FROM Âé¶¹´«Ã½, consider taking the following:
    • Carl T. Jones to Cecil Ashburn.
    • HWY 72 to Dug Hill then to King Drake to HWY 431.
    • HWY 72 to Eastern Bypass
    • Green Mountain Road
  • If you need to get from Hampton Cove TO Âé¶¹´«Ã½, consider taking the following:
    • Cecil Ashburn to Carl T. Jones
    • Eastern Bypass to HWY 72
    • King Drake to Dug Hill to HWY 72
    • Green Mountain Road

Officers are stationed at key intersections near the closure to manage traffic flow. Please drive carefully and follow their instructions.
