Alabama State Troopers released more information on Friday about a series of crashes that resulted in the death of an Austin Peay football player in Limestone County on Tuesday.

Troopers say a commercial vehicle was involve in a series of crashes resulted that killed William D. Hardrick, 22, injured one other, and resulted in the arrest of the commercial vehicle's driver.

A two-vehicle wreck happened about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday on I-65 near U.S. 31 about two miles north of Athens.

According to State Troopers, Hardrick was killed when the 2009 Chevrolet Impala he drove was struck by a 2000 Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by John W. McAdams, 31, of Winfield. Hardrick's vehicle left the roadway, struck a fence, a guardrail, and then overturned. Hardrick was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say McAdams failed to stop and fled the scene of the crash.

Prior to striking Hardrick's vehicle, State Troopers say McAdams was involved in another crash where the tractor-trailer he was driving hit a 2017 Nissan Sentra. The driver of the Nissan was injured and taken to Athens Hospital for treatment.

Troopers say after striking multiple vehicles, the tractor-trailer eventually came to a stop and caught fire.

State Troopers arrested McAdams and charged him with murder, two counts of felony leaving the scene of an accident, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
